NOT THE SHARPEST KNIVES IN THE DRAWER: Extradite Polanski To Poland
Exactly one day after the Polish government enacted a law requiring chemical castration for pedophiles convicted of raping children under the age of 15 years or a close relative - criminals Prime Minister Donald Tusk said were “degenerates” who don't deserve human rights – Swiss authorities arrested director Roman Polanski, 76, on an outstanding U.S. warrant issued in 1978 after he pleaded guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl and skipped bail before sentencing, fleeing to France. Polanski had crossed the border into Switzerland to attend a film festival in his honor.
The Washington Post reports that the French and Polish governments are demanding Polanski’s release:
French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner called the arrest "a bit sinister" and told a French radio station that he and Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski have appealed to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to intervene. The Polish Filmmakers Association also called for the release of Polanski, who has dual Polish and French citizenship, and asked U.S. authorities to review the case. …
Sikorski told Poland's PAP news agency Sunday that he was "considering approaching the American authorities over the possibility of the U.S. president proclaiming an act of clemency, which would settle the matter once and for all."
Instead of pressing for clemency, if the Polish government is serious about enforcing its new law, it should start with Polanski, who meets all of the requirements for chemical castration – though at his age, it is likely unnecessary.
Just a classic case of hypocracy and social justice only for the rich. The same liberals who clamor for Polanski's release, notwithstanding the fact that he drugged and raped a 13yr old girl- generally clamor for the release of" poor" people and say that justice is not blind but benefits only the rich- they are perpetuating the very evil they often holler about...liberal hypocrites
