NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: Nobel Laureate In Economics Can't Count

New York Times columnist Paul Krugman, who received a Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences last year, posted this at 8:09 this morning:

Last night I participated in the Ig Nobels, where I gave one of the 24/7 lectures. These are 24 seconds of impenetrable jargon, followed by a 7-word explanation of your field.

Krugman’s 24 seconds of impenetrable jargon, were, indeed, impenetrable, but it was the 7-word explanation that made people scratch their heads: "Greedy people, competing, make the world go round."

At 8:20, the first of many readers noted: "I’m reading eight words."

Now, if Krugman had taken out the word "greedy," the statement would have been accurate in more ways than one.
