NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: Double-Dipping “Disabled” Designer

LA-based interior designer Ronald Hunt, 56, cashed $147,600 in disability checks from 2003 to 2006 while continuing to earn $400,500 from clients. The double-dipping was discovered by the CA Franchise Tax Board and the state’s Department of Insurance when he appeared on HGTV, reports KNBC-TV (Channel 4-Los Angeles). He pleased guilty to one count each of state income tax fraud and insurance fraud - both felonies – and was sentenced to perform 200 hours of community service, was put on 60 months of probation and ordered to turn over $151,700 restitution to the insurance company that paid out his disability benefits and $31,000 to FTB.
