WHAT A HEEL: Thief Worried About His Reputation
Michael Vincent Gutierrez, 26, got a tip from a friend about a vacant house in Sonoma, CA, that “would be easy pickings for a burglar,” reports the San Francisco Chronicle. Gutierrez claims he did not know that the home’s occupants had all been killed in a horrific traffic accident a few days earlier:
Gutierrez and his current girlfriend, Amber Marie True, 29, pleaded not guilty Thursday in Sonoma County Superior Court in Santa Rosa to charges of residential burglary, possession of stolen property and auto theft.
Both were also charged with an enhancement alleging that they were out on bail when they were arrested for the burglary. Gutierrez, who has several convictions for evading police and grand theft, was charged in October in San Mateo County with methamphetamine possession, being a felon in possession of a gun and possession of stolen property. True, who lives in Redwood City, is facing methamphetamine possession charges. …
The two are being held at Sonoma County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail apiece. …
In an interview with the Santa Rosa Press Democrat Gutierrez insists that he found out about the fatal accident from the police, adding, “I am not a monster. I don't want people to think I'm a cold-hearted man."
Maybe Gutierrez still has a conscience, and the shame and guilt he appears to feel will eat at him during his fourth prison stint and this time he will come out a changed man. Hey, it’s the season of miracles – it could happen (last item).
