WHAT A HEEL: Volunteer Helps Herself Instead Of Others

Tonya Bethke, 38, admitted to embezzling $20,000 from Minnesota Valley Moms, a social and support non-profit group with more than 500 members who are mothers of twins, triplets and quadruplets for which she volunteered as treasurer, reports The Pioneer Press (Minneapolis-St. Paul):

The Dakota County Attorney's office charged Bethke this week with two felony counts of theft by swindle. The criminal complaint states that in July, the president of the organization informed Apple Valley police that Bethke, their treasurer, had taken funds for her personal use. …

Police questioned Bethke and she "admitted that she had used the organization's check card to make purchases and pay bills for herself and her family," according to charges.

Bethke had repaid the group $980 back in March, but had not since made any attempt at restitution.
