GOODY TWO SHOES: Following NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Carbon Footprints Back To His Private Plane
NYers know that Mayor Michael Bloomberg doesn’t practice what he preaches when it comes to the healthy diet he is trying to force-feed us through bans and regulations. So natch, he is flying to the climate change conference in Copenhagen in one of the private jets he owns, reports The New York Times:
A strong case can be made that when it comes to energy and climate issues, Mr. Bloomberg is the most visionary public official in the country.
And a strong argument can also be made that on a personal level, he ranks among the worst individual polluters ever to hold public office.
Mr. Bloomberg owns a helicopter and two jets, both Falcon 900s. He flies everywhere on private jets, by far the least efficient form of transportation on or above the earth. …
The carbon math works out like this: by taking his Falcon 900 to Denmark, Mr. Bloomberg will be responsible for the release of 37 times the carbon dioxide than if he and his entourage flew on a scheduled commercial flight.
Reporter Jim Dwyer admonishes those of us who schlep our groceries and laundry around by cart to walk a mile in Bloomie’s carbon footprint before we tsk-tsk, because if we had his money we'd flying to the Laundromat eight blocks away from the apartment by private jet. Well, more likely we’d make the trip chauffeured in a shiny black Town Car. Or, as Dwyer puts it: “Human beings will produce as many tons of carbon emissions as they can afford.”
