NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: Instead Of Filling Tank, Driver At Gas Pump Cooked Crank

Police responding to a complaint by a Shell gas station that a car had been parked next to a gas pump for an hour discovered a mobile meth lab in the back seat and the driver, 31-year-old Nathan E. Beasley, passed out in the front seat, reports The Daily News Journal (Murfreesboro TN):

"Fluids in the bottles were in the process of chemical reaction and were actively cooking," [according to a release from the police department].

Murfreesboro Fire Department identified substances found at the scene as ammonium nitrate, fluid from a Coleman lantern and lithium.

"Anytime you have this type of chemical in location of a gas pump, an explosion can be tremendous," Assistant Chief Allen Swader said.

Beasley was taken to the hospital, where he regained consciousness; his meth lab was taken apart by the Murfreesboro Police and Fire Departments from the vehicle.

After further investigation by police, Beasley was charged with driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license, reckless endangerment and manufacturing meth.
