WHAT A HEEL: The Bronx (Diner) Is Burning
Fire investigators accuse Mohammed Abdul Quadir, 52, of paying Christopher J. Gooding, 53, $2,000 to torch a Bronx eatery he owns. A few days before Christmas, the American Diner went up in flames. The five-alarm blaze also destroyed an adjacent supermarket, bank and dentist's office, reports the New York Daily News. The financially strapped Quadir, who still owed the previous owner of the diner thousands of dollars and recently insured it for more than $500,000, has been charged with arson. Gooding, whose rap sheet includes burglary and assault arrests, has been charged with third-degree arson, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment.
