THE DAILY BLADE: Let Them Eat Steak!: Part VI

American soldiers are dying in Afghanistan and Iraq; millions of Americans are out of work, have seen their retirement savings evaporate or owe more to the bank then their home is worth; and the 2009 budget deficit is estimated at $1.4 trillion. But taking their cue from the party-loving president, Dems are living high on the hog – on the taxpayer’s dime. Take, for instance, the $2.1 million of our dollars House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spend flying around on Air Force jets over the past two years. The Washington Times puts on the green eyeshade and totes up where the money went:

The charges include $101,000 in "in-flight services" that reportedly included Maker's Mark, Jack Daniels and Jim Beam whiskeys, Beefeater and Bombay Sapphire gin, Courvoisier cognac and other fancy food and liquor. The taxpayer-funded military flights included 31 trips with members of her family on board.

“It says a lot about the tone deafness of our pampered political class that elected officials on the public dole live higher on the hog than ever while Americans suffer through the worst economy in decades,” tut-tuts The Times.

Undercover Video Triggers Investigation That Puts Planned Parenthood Of AL On Probation

In 2008 UCLA student Lila Rose posed as a pregnant fourteen year old seeking an abortion and surreptitiously filmed abortion counselors at the Planned Parenthood of Alabama in Birmingham who were all-too-willing to flout their law by not reporting an apparent statutory rape to the authorities. Her video led to an investigation by the state Department of Public Health, which found nine regulatory violations at the clinic, reports WIAT-TV (Channel 42-Birmingham):

Since September of 2008, nine girls between the ages of thirteen and fifteen had abortions without full legal parental consent.

In its 36 page statement of deficiencies, the state says Planned Parenthood even allowed the consent of a woman posing as a fifteen year old's mother who had an expired driver's license, different last name, and different address as the girl. Even birth records show she's not the mother.

Rick Harris of the Department of Public Health says these practices are a clear violation of state law. …

The state found evidence [that a law requiring mandatory reporting of rape was not followed] with a … thirteen year old who went to the Birmingham clinic.

"(She) reported she had been having sexual relations since she was twelve. She was pregnant. She needed an abortion. They gave her an abortion. Same girl comes in four months later and gets another abortion...A reasonable person faced with that situation would have to suspect abuse...If it was abuse we've the lost the opportunity to help that child," says Harris.

The state also uncovered sanitation issues including improper disposal of a needle attached to a syringe, expired medicine and out of date equipment.

Planned Parenthood of Alabama has a year to tell the state how it plans to correct the deficiencies.
