ON THE CUTTING EDGE: Bloomberg Baseball Stats Stat

Financial services data purveyor Bloomberg LP, is swinging for the fences with two online baseball statistics tools, one for fantasy baseball players and another for baseball lovers, reports the New York Post:

The interactive products, which are just being rolled out now in partnership with Major League Baseball's online operation, promise to deliver unique, graphics-rich player comparisons, local news, player and team match-ups, customizable charts and, soon, video. …

Bloomberg's stats will be up-to-the-second accurate as all 30 MLB parks are wired to deliver information to Bloomberg on every pitch thrown. …

With Bloomberg charging $24.95 for the in-season product and tens of millions of fans as potential customers, the revenue stream could be quite sizeable for the privately held company controlled by billionaire Mayor Mike Bloomberg.

And speaking baseball, according to two new Rasmussen Reports telephone surveys, when soon-to-be 76-year old MLB Commissioner Bud Selig retires former Yankees player and manager Joe Torre is an early favorite to succeed him and the Bronx Bombers will win their second straight World Series this season.
