NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: If Barney Fife Had A Taser …

A sheriff's deputy is on unpaid administrative leave for (allegedly) tasing 30 students at their request during a career fair at the Lake County High School in Leadville, CO, reports WTSP-TV (Channel 10-Tampa Bay, FL):

According to school administrators, the students asked the deputy to shock them so they knew what it felt like.

Two of the students received minor burns and were taken to a local hospital. They were treated and released.

A student says one female student was shocked seven times at her request. …

A spokesperson for the Lake County Sheriff's Department says this is not a common practice and should not have happened. …

The case has been turned over to the Lake County District Attorney's office which will decide if the deputy will face any charges.

One student is defending the deputy, insisting that his classmates "begged" to be shocked. Yes, but as the adult in the room – it is unclear whether any teachers witnessed any of the tasings – the deputy should have refused, and explained that the device could trigger a fatal arrhythmia if any of the students had an undiagnosed congenital heart defect.
