WHAT HEELS: Would You Like Pot With That?

The NYPD busted eight workers at six eateries and stores within a 10-block area of Crown Heights, Brooklyn, for selling hundreds of pounds of pot along with pot-ables, pot-ato chips and pot roast, reports  The New York Times:

There were two restaurants, a deli, a bodega, a clothing shop and a music store. None of the owners had been arrested, officials said.

Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly said the police had been getting repeated complaints from merchants and residents about rampant drug dealing in the area. During a two-month investigation, undercover officers conducted a total of almost 60 drug buys at the six businesses.

“At lunch it turned into a veritable pot-luck event,” Mr. Kelly said during a news conference in Crown Heights with Charles J. Hynes, the Brooklyn district attorney. “You could go in and get drugs in the food itself or go to the back of the store and pick it up or even buy it over the counter.”

As described by law enforcement authorities, the discreet sales of marijuana proved quite lucrative: about 170 pounds of marijuana were sold every week, with each pound selling for about $1,100. On Tuesday, the police confiscated two pounds of marijuana, and at one business took $300,000 in cash.

If you think about it, it’s not a bad business model for an eatery: One-stop shopping to get high and to deal with the munchies.
