GOODY TWO SHOES: Head Of NH Liquor Commission Fired For DWI

NH Gov. John Lynch (D) fired acting liquor commissioner Richard Simard after police pulled him over for speeding and driving erratically, and he refused to take a Breathalyzer test, reports WMUR-TV (Channel 9-Manchester, NH):

Police pulled him over at about 11:50 p.m. … and conducted a field sobriety test, which police determined he failed. Simard refused a Breathalyzer, according to police. …

“It is simply unacceptable for a liquor commissioner, stopped by the police on suspicion of driving under the influence, to refuse a Breathalyzer test," Lynch said in a written statement. "Under the circumstances, Richard Simard’s continued presence on the Liquor Commission would compromise the integrity of the commission."

Simard, 67, who headed the three-member agency that regulates the sale and distribution of alcohol in the state, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and speeding and later released on $1,000 personal recognizance bail.
