NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: Stool Pigeon
Thomas Hovis Jr., who was wanted on numerous drug charges, thought he had a bullet-proof hiding place when the police came to his home to serve him with an arrest warrant, reports The News-Sentinel (Fort Wayne, IN):
Hovis reportedly ran from the home to a nearby outbuilding, the sheriff's department said. Officers immediately surrounded the building and ordered Hovis out.
After he did not emerge, officers fired tear gas into the building, but that did not sway Hovis to leave the building.
When officers entered the building, they found Hovis standing up to his neck in a manure pit under the floor. After officers removed Hovis from the pit, he reportedly began fighting with officers, and was Tased, police said.
The tear gas apparently was no match for the noxiousness of the liquid manure, which explains why it had no effect on Hovis. After a search of Hovis’ home turned up a pot of meth bubbling away, 18 pot plants and several guns, he was charged with six felonies and other offenses.
