NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: First His Feet Failed Him, Then His Brain
German novelist Thomas Mann believed that “[t]houghts come clearly while one walks.” Maybe so, but not all of them should be acted upon – for instance, calling 9-1-1 for a ride home.
According to the Charles County (MD) Sheriff's Office, when officers responded to an emergency call, the “victim” said that while he was walking along Route 225 a car pulled up and he was robbed at gunpoint, reports The Associated Press:
Investigators noticed inconsistencies in his story as they searched the area and the man admitted the ruse. His ride home from work was a no-show, so he started walking the 15 miles, but after a while, he devised a new plan, according to the sheriff's office.
The man said his cell phone was out of minutes and 911 was the only number he could still call.
A false 9-1-1 report is punishable by a fine up to $500 and as much as six months behind bars.
