NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: Drug Dog Sniffs Out Mutt
Michael Inman, 48, a criminal defense attorney at Inman & Associates in Beverly Hills, has been arrested on suspicion of narcotics possession after he (allegedly) tried to smuggle drugs into a downtown Los Angeles courthouse, reports Los Angeles Times:
Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said the drugs were discovered by a sheriff's department dog brought in to check inmates for narcotics. …
"This was a brazen attempt to bring narcotics into an otherwise secure facility," Whitmore said. "This individual brought in about 19 grams of black tar heroin and about 2 grams of methamphetamine."
Whitmore could not say exactly where the drugs were allegedly hidden.
The National Law Journal reports that the Los Angeles County district attorney's office believes Inman intended to sell the drugs when he visited two clients in a burglary case. Charged with four felony counts, including possession of a controlled substance in a jail and sale or transport of a controlled substance, Inman is being held in lieu of $190,000 bail. If convicted, Inmate Inman can be sentenced to as much as five years imprisonment.
LA Weekly reports that the California Bar Association Inman is currently investigating allegations of professional misconduct against Inman that could lead to his disbarment. Inman, who has a history of amphetamine and marijuana abuse, was suspended from practicing law for a month in 1999 and ordered to pay restitution in a civil dispute.
