NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: One Thing Leads To Another
Eben Valdez, 22, of St. Paul, MN, was stopped by police in Sioux City, IA, for jaywalking 13 months ago. Because they found six grams of crack in his pocket, the cops couldn’t just let him go with a stern warning to cross at the green and not in between, to look both ways before crossing and not to step on any cracks so as not to break his mother’s back.
Valdez admitted that from about 2008 through June 3, 2009, that he was involved in a conspiracy that distributed more than 50 grams of crack cocaine in Sioux City, reports the Sioux City Journal, and later pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine within 1000 feet of a public school or playground.
U.S. District Judge Mark W. Bennett sentenced Valdez to 97 months in federal prison, followed by a 10-year term of supervised release.
