WHAT A HEEL: Special Ed Teacher Feigns Brain Cancer To Get Time Off

Leslie L. Herneisey, 51, a former special education teacher at the Middletown Middle School, is facing 12 felony forgery counts for (allegedly) falsifying medical documents to make it appear she was undergoing a eight-week chemotherapy program to treat an inoperable brain tumor so that she could take a leave of absence from her job, reports The Patriot-News (Harrisburg, PA):

The forms, which included a federal Family and Medical Leave Act form, were all purportedly signed by Dr. Jonas M. Sheehan, a neurosurgeon at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Lower Swatara Township police said.

But Sheehan never examined Herneisey, and never diagnosed her with any ailment. “He didn't even know who she is,” said Lower Swatara Det. Robert Appleby.

Herneisey admitted fabricating the documents when school district officials confronted her in late May and immediately resigned her position, Appleby said.
