NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: Snake and Ladders

Kevin Michael Gilman, 36, stole a ladder during a burglary and put it up for sale on Craigslist before he got arrested for the theft. When he was released from jail a few days later he returned a telephone message from an interested buyer, unaware that he was the original owner of the ladder, KPTV (Channel 12-Portland, OR) reports:

The victim called sheriff's investigators and then arranged a meeting time with Gilman and undercover detectives, said [Sgt. David Thompson, a sheriff's office spokesman].

Deputies said they met with Gilman and purchased three newly stolen ladders from him. They then arrested him on burglary and theft charges.

Gilman also told deputies that stole packages from porches while walking around and admitted entering an unlocked home from which he took a guitar and movies that he sold to a pawn shop.

Gilman was arrested on burglary and theft charges, and is in custody at the Washington County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail, reports The Oregonian.
