NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: Bike Rider Charged With DWI After Hitting Police Car

Robert Earl Batton, 47, of Minden, LA, was arrested on charges of DWI and marijuana possession after he came close to getting hit by a car while riding down the center of Shreveport Road, reports the Minden Press-Herald:

When [Webster Parish Deputy Tony Matteson] attempted to stop Batton, he had difficulty getting the bicyclist’s attention, even with lights and siren.

Matteson pulled ahead and in front of Batton, at which time he exited his vehicle in an attempt to get the rider’s attention. The effort failed, with Batton driving his bicycle directly into the deputy’s vehicle.

Upon inspection of Batton, Matteson detected the strong smell of alcoholic beverage and according to the deputy’s report, the man appeared “unsteady on his feet” while trying to escape.

A breath test later established that Batton’s BAC was .270 percent – which is what they mean by “blind drunk.”
