NOT THE SHARPEST KNIVES IN THE DRAWER: Rearranging The Deck Chairs

In its annual sustainability report, which deals with its perceived social, economic and environmental responsibility, Johnson & Johnson says it will meet or exceed its 2010 environmental sustainability goals by taking such steps as reducing water use, carbon emissions and hazardous waste, while also increasing use of recycled paper and “green energy, reports GreenBiz.com via Reuters. Unfortunately, the company has failed in its responsibility to consumers to produce safe and effective healthcare products and CEO William Weldon will be testifying before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform this week to answer charges that J&J dragged its feet in 2009 in alerting the public of a recall of 40 widely used nonprescription products for children and infants because of bacterial contamination of the raw materials used in manufacturing them, and may have tried to hide a Motrin recall. Oh, and Food and Drug Administration investigators have also cited the company for violating good manufacturing practices.
