NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: Getaway Wheelchair
Rudolph Spurlin, 39, was arrested on a charge of armed robbery for pulling a shiv fashioned from a pair of scissors on a cashier at a sporting goods store who tried to stop him from leaving the store with a $70 jacket he hadn’t paid for, The Daily Tribune (Mount Clemens, MI) reports:
Employees at the store called police to report the robbery and told police the suspect was headed north … in a wheelchair. …
Store employees told police the suspect first approached a cash register at the store with the jacket and a bag of candy. He tried to pay with a check that was declined, and then presented a debit card which declined to make a payment, police said.
Madison Heights Police Lt. Robert Andersonn tells the paper that when officers confronted Spurlin, he told them he had a gun.
Spurlin faces a life term if convicted of armed robbery.
