NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: Male Oprah Fan From Ontario Fakes Mugging
With the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, it's too easy to ridicule Harold Camping and his followers for incorrectly predicting the exact hour of the Rapture, so instead let's save our scorn for Robert Spearing who told police he had been mugged by two men, one black man and one Hispanic, so he wouldn’t have to tell his wife that they drove all the way from Ontario to see “Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular,” but wouldn’t get in since he didn’t have tickets. Chicago Tribune reports:
Spearing, police said, cut his own forehead with a rock and scraped his hands on the sidewalk to mimic injuries from a violent street robbery.
Spearing was charged with one count of felony disorderly conduct, police said, for filing a false police report. Cook County Judge Donald Panarese Jr. today ordered Spearing held on $20,000 bond and scheduled a hearing for next week.
One of Spearing’s relatives sprung him from the Cook County Jail by posting the $2,000 bail.
