NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: ATM Serviceman (Allegedly) Cleans Out Cash Machines

On July 4, 2010 ATM repairman Samuel Kioskli (allegedly) stuffed 13 ATM machines in San Francisco and the surrounding communities with photocopies of $20 bills, and high-tailed it to Phoenix with $180,000. The 64-year old didn’t tell his wife that he was skipping town – and, apparently, declaring his independence by skipping out on her so she naturally filed a missing persons report, KCBS-TV (Channel 5, San Francisco) reports:

“Reported as a missing person, he went into the ‘Wanted Persons’ category. Then of course the investigation followed up and they said, ‘Well maybe he isn’t just a missing person.’ And that’s what led them to say ‘Well there’s a good person to target as to who might have taken the money,’” said [Steve Wagstaffe, San Mateo County District Attorney].

After being on the lam 10 months, Kioskli was nabbed during a traffic stop.

Kioskli has pleaded not guilty to grand theft, commercial burglary, burglary and embezzlement and is being held is being held in the San Mateo County jail, in lieu of $25,000 bond from Daly City and a $350,000 bond from San Francisco.

As of yet the stolen funds have not been recovered.
