GOODY TWO SHOES: French Fries For Me, But Not For Thee
Michelle Obama, the self-appointed Czar of Pitanie Politsiya (Food Police), was spotted at a D.C. Shake Shack ordering a ShackBurger, fries, chocolate shake and a Diet Coke. At 1,556 calories, she scarfed down 78 percent of the recommended 2,000-calorie/day limit that the Food and Drug Administration uses as a benchmark for the Nutrition Facts section of food labels. To stay within the recommended caloric allotment for the day, MO would have had just 444 calories to divide up between breakfast and dinner. Maybe it’s time for her husband – dubbed “dad-in-chief” by Washington Post pundit Chris Cillizza – to give his wife the “It’s time to pull off the Band-Aid, [to] eat our peas” lecture (only in this case, he should say: “It’s time to put down the French fries and eat the vegetables from the White House garden you planted”). Oh, and to make sure MO doesn’t smack him upside the head, he should be careful to use that “more-in-sorrow-than-in-anger” paternalistic tone Cillizza says he used on Republican lawmakers.Correction: The WaPo says it lowballed the number of calories in MO's lunch. The total caloric count for her Shake Shack meal is now reported at 1,700 calories - that's 85 percent of the number of calories a moderately active adult woman should eat. She would have had to skip breakfast and eat a 300-calorie Lean Cuisine dinner to stay within the FDA's guidleines. Something tells The Stiletto MO doesn't skip many meals.
