WHAT A HEEL: This Providence Was Not Provident
Former PTA treasurer Providence Hogan is accused of embezzling roughly $82,000 from the PTA at P.S. 29 in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, between 2006-2008 and using the funds to pay for fertility treatments after she suffered several miscarriages and her husband had lost his job. Her attorney Stephen Flamhaft tells WABC-TV (Channel 7, NYC) that she is trying to work out a plea deal that will keep her out of jail:
"She's stabilized in a lot of ways, treatment wise and medication wise, her husband is now working, the problems that became overwhelming have subsided. Is she remorseful for what she did? Very much so," Flamhaft said. …
She'd avoid jail time by instead making one payment of $40,000, the balance within nine months, plus interest.
"We have additional checks and balances in place that we have tightened our financial control, probably the tightest PTA in New York City right now," Natalie Giles, a parent said.
A judge is expected to make a decision in this case on August 11th.
