NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: The Wrong Tool For The Job
Lawrence Roberts, 33, was charged with felony child abuse for (allegedly) trying to use a 10-inch circular saw to cut the cast off his 15-year-old son’s right hand, cutting the top of the boy’s thumb off and nearly severing his right index finger, The Sun Sentinel (Fort Lauderdale, FL) reports:
Rescuers took the teenager to Coral Springs Medical Center. He was later taken to Broward General Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale for emergency surgery to repair his thumb.
His cast was removed by medical personnel at the hospital, said police spokesman Sgt. Dave Kirkland.
Roberts … did not explain why he used the saw or why he tried to remove the cast.
Roberts, who is free on $7,500, faces as much as 30 years in prison if convicted.
