NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: Drivin’ Sister
On a tip from a passing motorist, LA police officers pulled over a Chevy pick-up truck because the 8 year-old behind the wheel was driving erratically. The boy wasn’t on a joy ride, but had allegedly been told to drive the vehicle by his father, 28 year-old Billy Joe Madden of Hattiesburg, MS, Reuters reports:
The boy was driving on Interstate 12 near the town of Holden, with his father in the passenger seat and his 4 year-old sister in the back seat, Louisiana State Police said in a statement.
Police said they determined Madden was drunk and that he had been sleeping while his son drove the vehicle, en-route to Dallas, Texas.
Madden was detained at Livingston Parish Detention Center in lieu of $1,474 bail on charges that include two counts each of child desertion, no child restraint and no seatbelt, as well as parent allowing a minor to drive, and open container. A family member was contacted to take custody of the two kids, who had been turned over to child welfare authorities.
