NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: Script Bombed Even Before Being Made Into A Movie

Can a movie script be so bad that a talent agency would have it – and the laptop which the writer used to create it – blown up so it wouldn’t ever, ever, ever see the light of day? Could be. Or, it could be that said writer forgot his briefcase containing the laptop and script at the Above the Line Agency in Beverly Hills and nervous employees called the police as a safety precaution, The New York Times reports:

The man had been pestering an agent in the office to read his work. No one had asked him to leave the script, much less a briefcase. Besides, the case was locked. A security guard took the case to a nearby alley. The police were called.

“Nobody knew this guy,” said the head of the agency, Rima Greer. “He shows up with this thing. People in this office don’t know what it is. There are hundreds of these guys.”

The Beverly Hills police called the bomb squad at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, who were taking no chances. They sealed off the 400 block of Camden Drive and evacuated dozens of people from nearby businesses on Rodeo Drive and Santa Monica Boulevard. Then they blew up the briefcase. It was standard procedure for suspicious packages, a police official said.

The aspiring screenwriter – whose name has not been released – was questioned by police, but not arrested or charged in the incident.
