NOT THE SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER: Slacker Lawyer’s License Suspended
PA attorney Matthew Eshelman, 43, was fired from law firm Gates, Halbruner & Hatch in 2007 for letting filings and other client matters slip while he fiddled with video games to cope with job-related stress and personal issues.
His self-described addiction to gaming got worse when he opened a solo practice – in addition to missing deadlines, he lost track of client funds and ducked calls from frantic and furious clients. One client needed psychiatric treatment for the stress she experienced as a result of her dealings with Eshelman.
Based on his mishandling of 17 cases, the state Supreme Court Disciplinary Board has ordered that he be suspended from practicing law for three years, ABA Journal reports.
