Landlord robs dead tenant
WHAT A HEEL: The Rev. Victor Rosa, who owns a four-family home at 1419 Vyse Avenue in The Bronx, was arrested at his home in Orlando and charged with mail fraud and felony identify theft for (allegedly) cashing $241,000 in pension and union welfare-fund checks sent to retired school teacher Maria Sicardo, a tenant who died in 2000, New York Post reports:
City probers found that the elder Rosa had cashed Sicardo’s checks for years at Claremont Check Cashing Co. in The Bronx, where employees knew him as a local church pastor who preached to strangers in line. …
None of the employees interviewed knew how he had obtained permission to cash someone else’s checks, but he allegedly told one he was helping a woman who lived in his building. He allegedly told another he had power of attorney.
Landlords usually have to worry about deadbeat tenants stiffing them on the rent. In this case, a dead tenant was robbed by her landlord
