Perp and victim arrested after police investigate home invasion

NOT THE SHARPEST KNIVES IN THE DRAWER: After a home invasion, (alleged) perp, Michael Schwartzkopf Jr. (left) and his victim, Steven Iverson (right), ended up charged with felonies, Pioneer Press reports:

Police responded to a … 911 call from a woman saying "help me" about 1:30 a.m. Monday. The woman, who police said was Iverson's girlfriend, told responding officers she had been sleeping before she heard a loud crash and a voice saying, "I have a gun."

Iverson told officers he had been robbed. He said he was asleep on a couch when he heard a noise and woke to find a man he didn't know pointing a gun at him. The man directed him to the floor and cable-tied his hands, he said.

The intruder demanded money and guns and forced him into the garage, where Iverson gave him the combination to a safe, Iverson said. The man then took items from the safe, including about $30,000 in cash.

When police caught up with Schwartzkopf, he had a backpack with him that contained a Glock handgun, $35,000 in cash and a metal box containing Iverson's Social Security card and passport. A second backpack found near the robbery scene contained guns and marijuana, which Iverson said had been taken from his home. Schwartzkopf was charged with armed robbery, false imprisonment, armed burglary and theft of more than $10,000 in property.

When interviewed by the police about the stolen items — which also included brass knuckles, a butterfly knife and an "electric weapon"— Iverson claimed the pot was for personal use, and assured the officers that the money was his life savings and not proceeds from drug dealing. The officers, who found about 135 grams of marijuana in plastic sandwich bags scattered throughout Iverson's house, were skeptical and arrested him for felony possession of THC with intent to deliver.
