In both this article and your article, "The Uniter," however, you use the phrase "only when." This may just be your personal rhetoric, but it raises too high a standard and doesn't, IMO, envision a character arc in which Barack and Michelle can grow.

To suppose that Wright, who had previously been vilified by short snippets culled from hours and hours of sermons, could simply have extemporaneously hit all of the bases in a few interviews and speeches last week is to be blinded to what obviously happened. Wright, who is by nobody's account stupid or ignorant of politics, carefully calculated what he could say to punish his former friend for what he saw as disloyalty.

Also: call me a conspiracy theorist if you will, but on the Palfrey thing I just think it is convenient, in fact too convenient that two women who clearly had knowlege that could bring down the high and the mighty, both were found hanged in an apparent suicide. Let's just say that there are plenty of people in high places who didn't get there by being afraid to do whatever it took to protect their careers, and who don't want to be the next Eliot Spitzer.
